چکیده

Introduction Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the most common gastrointestinal cancer and the leading cause of cancer deaths in Iran.1 According to the World Health Organization (WHO), approximately, 875000 new cases of CRC are diagnosed annually worldwide.2 In general, the most CRCs are immunologically silent tumors, grow slowly and often do not produce symptoms until they reach a large size. The incidence of CRC varies worldwide, with higher frequencies in America, NorthWestern Europe, Australia, Japan, China, Singapore and Canada, and lower J Anal Res Clin Med, 2016, 4(2), 82-9. doi: 10.15171/jarcm.2016.014, http://journals.tbzmed.ac.ir/JARCM

Demonstration of Herpes Simplex Virus, Cytomegalovirus and Epstein-Barr Virus in Colorectal Cancer

Background: The present study sought to investigate molecular evidence for association between the presence of herpes simplex virus (HSV), cytomegalovirus (CMV), and Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) in CRC and colorectal polyp by using the PCR method in Iran. Methods: In this analytical case-control study, we selected 15 patients with CRC, 20 patients with colorectal polyp, and 35 patients without mali...

Uterine Leiomyoma and Reproductive Tract Infections Detected by Polymerase Chain Reaction

Background and Objective: For nearly a century, it has been suspected that reproductive tract infections play an etiologic role in uterine leiomyoma. However, no epidemiologic study of leiomyoma has used the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) to compare uterine tissues from cases and non-cases, and to investigate associations between uterine leiomyoma and infections detected by PC...

Herpes Simplex Virus and Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis

Background and objective: Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH) is a rare histiocytic proliferative disorder of unknown etiology and mainly affects young children. The histological feature is granuloma-like proliferation of langerhans-type dendritic cells. Although the possible role of viruses such as Epstein-Barr virus (EBV, Human Herpes virus -4</...

Localization of Herpes Simplex Virus Type 1 DNA in Latently Infected BALB/c Mice Neurons Using in situ Polymerase Chain Reaction

Background: Herpes simplex virus type-1 (HSV-1) establishes a lifelong latent infection in neurons following primary infection. The existence of latent HSV-1 DNA in the trigeminal ganglia of infected BALB/c mice was examined using a direct in situ PCR technique, based on Digoxigenin-11-dUTP detection system with anti-digoxigenin-peroxidase and 3,3'-diaminobenzidine (DAB) substrate. Methods: Eig...
